Are you tech savvy? Are you patient and able to teach others? If so, you might be the perfect volunteer to help with the Johnson County Genealogical Society's Memory Lab.

The Memory Lab is equipment that helps community members transform their photos, 8mm film, 35mm slides, and VHS into digital formats.

Volunteers will be trained in utilizing the equipment. Then, they will sign-up for a weekly volunteer shift to help scheduled individual users transform their media to a digital format. Due to the training involved, volunteers must be willing to commit to a regular shift for a minimum of six months.

Basic computer skills are required. Prior experience using a scanner is helpful. Volunteers must enjoy working with technology and helping people of all ages learn to use the equipment. Patience with people and equipment is critical.

Morning shifts are 9AM-12:30PM or afternoon shifts are 12:30-4PM. Shifts available are:

  • Tuesday mornings
  • Saturday mornings (bi-weekly committment)
  • Saturday afternoon (bi-weekly committment)
