Mission Statement
The mission of the Invisible Illness Awareness Network is to increase awareness about invisible illnesses, particularly through an easily adaptable education program designed for high schools, colleges, and other forms of higher education. Additionally, we aim to provide resources and support for the invisible illness community while fostering compassion and understanding between patients, providers, and the general population. Description
The Invisible Illness Awareness Network (IIAN) was founded by Stephanie Miller and Sarah Hammes in 2023, dedicated to raising awareness and providing support for individuals with invisible illnesses. Through initiatives like our affiliate program and our Invisibly Aware Series, we aim to educate current and future healthcare professionals and the general public about invisible illnesses, chronic illnesses, and disabilities. Our affiliate program, which began at Loyola University Chicago and has expanded to the University of Pennsylvania, continues to grow as we collaborate with more universities to implement our educational programs, particularly those with pre-health tracks. Our Invisibly Aware Series is an implementation of our affiliate program and is open to the public.
