Girls on the Run Palm Beach is seeking Board Members to drive our mission forward to help girls in our community.
The primary responsibilities would be to help us grow our SoleMates program. SoleMates are individuals who set a goal (like running a 5K or marathon, or walking one mile every day for a month, or increasing their weightlifting capability by 20 pounds, etc.) and then fundraise among their friends and family for Girls on the Run as they train to reach their goal. So if you know people who are leading a heathy lifestyle or who are just getting into fitness and need some motivation (or you are one of these people), we need you to help these individuals become a SoleMate, who raises funds for Girls on the Run.
Our Board Members also talk to everyone they know about Girls on the Run to help us get the word out and volunteer during our events, especially our big 5K event, which brings together GOTR girls and their families in one place for a morning run and fun!
At Girls on the Run Palm Beach, we strive to be an inclusive organization that honors multiple approaches and points of view. To help us best represent our diverse local communities, Palm Beach County residents who are age 21+ of all races and ethnicities, retirees, and others, are encouraged to apply.
We expect Board Members to bring their enthusiasm for our cause to light by working on solutions and tasks relating to our goals. The individuals for this office will each serve an initial 2-year commitment and may be re-elected for additional terms.
WHAT OUR ORGANIZATION DOES: Girls on the Run Palm Beach encourages girls of all abilities to recognize their individual strengths and celebrate connections with others. Our tested curricula blend physical fitness activity with skill development that enables girls to adapt to whatever comes their way. Different versions of the curriculum ensure that no matter how many times girls participate, there is always something new to explore and learn. In today’s unpredictable world, the strategies girls learn at Girls on Run are more important than ever.

Mission Statement
We inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running. Being a young girl in today’s society is tough! Girls on the Run helps third- through eighth-grade girls navigate difficult situations such as how to handle a bully, deal with difficult emotions, and how to stay healthy. Our one-of-a-kind program combines discussions of relevant topics with running to explore important values like gratitude and friendship and to inspire self-respect and healthy lifestyles. Our core curricula address many aspects of girls' development - their physical, emotional, mental and social well-being. Lessons provide girls with the tools to make positive decisions and to avoid risky behaviors. Girls on the Run is a 501(c)3 positive youth development organization.
Description
Program Design
The multiple-lesson program teaches life skills by introducing an age-appropriate topic during each lesson. Girls explore the topic by playing fun games, discussing their thoughts and feelings, as well as moving, exercising, and running. Certified Girls on the Run coaches facilitate the well-structured lessons, which include understanding ourselves, valuing teamwork and understanding how we connect with and shape the world at large.
Each season, the girls complete a 5k running event as a group. Our seasons are Fall and Winter annually.
