Camp FAVE, Week 1 (June 17th -June 21st)
RSVP volunteers will assist Camp FAVE directors and counselors by helping to check in/out campers to the free daily camp and also helping to verify attendance as campers travel to/from field trips.
Why: In order to provide this free camp, FAVE will rely on volunteers to help support camp staff so they can transition into leading camp activities.
Who: FAVE (Families Active in Volunteer Enrichment), a program of L.A. Works, is running a free camp for children ages 7-14 in the Cypress Park neighborhood.
What to Expect:
Each day, volunteers can help support this camp by doing administrative tasks including checking in/out campers in the morning and the afternoon and by helping with attendance as campers board buses for morning activities and return to the camp location in the afternoon.
Morning Volunteers (8 -10 am) will...
Be met by Camp FAVE directors Beth Albrecht and Shayn Ferriolo at camp each morning
Set up attendance table at beginning of shift
Use attendance sheets to welcome and check in young campers ages 7-14, interact with parents and answer general questions about the daily camp schedule/ field trips
Direct campers to their counselor group; advise campers to drop off their bags/lunchboxes in designated drop zone; help contact any "no show" campers via phone as part of attendance each day
Help set up some small craft activities or games
Help board campers onto field trip bus
Breakdown attendance table at end of shift
Afternoon Volunteers (2-5 pm) will...
Meet designated L.A. Works staff for set up of camper attendance table
Wait for buses to arrive between 2-2:30 pm
check-in campers from the bus and have them drop lunch boxes in designated drop zone
Help set up some small craft activities or games
Check out campers with parents at 4-4:30 pick up window
Breakdown attendance table at end of shift
What's Required:
No advanced training required
Volunteers will have a chair available so they may sit during most of their shift
Ability to lift up to 20 lbs is preferred, but NOT required
Exact location and other details will be emailed to all registered volunteers
Volunteers should wear their RSVP shirt or L.A. Works shirt if they have one
Parking Instructions: Free parking in lot adjacent to the camp location
