Lighthouse Guild is proud to announce a life changing paid volunteer opportunity through our partnership with NYC Service/AmeriCorps. We are looking for someone to help support and build capacity of the Lighthouse Guild Stephen T. Pearlman Volunteer Center by supporting the growth and development of the Access Center, the next generation of volunteer executed programming to support people with vision impairment.
NYC Civic Corps is an AmeriCorps program run by NYC Service, a division of the Office of the Mayor. NYC Civic Corps places members at nonprofits throughout all 5 boroughs in New York City. Members help to develop volunteer recruitment, training, management, evaluation plans and programs with the goal of building volunteer program capacity and allowing the organization to engage more volunteers thereby engaging more clients.
The Access Center Program Assistant will be responsible for but not limited to the following:
Create the structure for the two new programs and recruit, screen and place volunteers for all programs, (reading, escort, companionship).
Evaluate potential clients for the programs and match them with volunteers.
They will coordinate schedules, receive clients and volunteers, and otherwise ensure the smooth running of the program.
Propose a strategy for meeting reading needs in unfilled positions then execute the strategy.
Document successful activities to ensure that procedures and protocols can be replicated and scaled.
During the service period, match at least 20 clients with volunteers.
Create new ways to meet the needs of isolated clients in need of volunteer support.
Principle duties and responsibilities:
Recruit and manage volunteers using the volunteer management system, e-mails, phone calls and external volunteer recruitment portals if necessary.
Manage the pairing of clients and volunteers on a daily basis. Answer phone calls related to the Volunteer Center.
Receive volunteers and clients that arrive at Lighthouse Guild for the Access Center.
Identify on call readers to fill vacancies. Escorts visually impaired clients if needed.
Create, revise or improve upon capacity building resources, tools and or procedures that will help and empower volunteer services department to effectively support our clients.
