Are you a student and interested in gaining more research experience solving real world problems?
Do you want an opportunity to learn more about natural language processing, CS, and even publish a paper? Whichever it may be, join us this summer at the Linguistics Justice League ( https://linguisticsjusticeleague.org/) for our inaugural Research Labs cohort!
Linguistics Justice League is a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that aims to uplift speakers of marginalized languages through machine learning and technology. We have built 3 apps so far that have impacted thousands of students worldwide and received over 300k in funding from Microsoft, T-Mobile, and other organizations.
This summer, we're pairing professors, graduate students, and research scientists from esteemed organizations and universities (!!) with passionate high school and college students to bring their publications "to life." As an incoming freshman at Stanford, I've also connected with several NLP labs that are interested in collaborating with our cohort.
A lot of current research in CS and language processing often only showcase accuracy scores, leaving us wondering: will real people find it useful? Do these models truly reflect the diverse ways language is used across cultures? There's so much research out there that's potential hasn't been realized yet, with groundbreaking models often being relegated to GitHub repositories that are inaccessible to the general public and marginalized communities who need it the most. Even if you don't have prior CS experience, we have a wide variety of roles (content creator, financial team, etc.) available to help out!
More details in this google form regarding program dates and roles. Please fill it out ASAP if you're interested: https://forms.gle/ATPpNcuB6vX18aQj6. SUMMER COHORT STARTS JUNE 2ND.
