Make a difference in the lives of LGBTQI+ older adults and get involved with Visibility Matters!
As LGBTQI+ people age and need supportive services to meet their aging goals, many of them question whether it is safe to share with their providers that they are LGBTQI+ due to stigmas they have witnessed and experienced over their lifetimes. The Visibility Matters trainings help professional care providers learn how to be more aware, sensitive, and responsive to LGBTQI+ older people and their families. Visibility Matters trainings are held both in person and virtually, and the Training Facilitator/Presenter provides these interactive workshops to diverse audiences.
As a Visibility Matters Training Facilitator, you would run in-person and virtual trainings using video conferencing software, in-person technologies, and PowerPoint software. In this role, you would need to be able to create a warm, welcoming atmosphere and interact respectfully with attendees. You would also be responsible for any set-up and take-down of equpment, and for tracking attendance.
If you have a foundational knowledge about older adults and LGBTQI+ communities and history, are comfortable speaking in public and utilizing technology, are reliable and consistent with job responsibilities, and are patient and respectful toward others, this may be the perfect volunteer opportunity for you!
Volunteers for this program must be at least 18 yrs old, must meet all requirements for volunteer onboarding, including ability to pass a background check and obtain a level 1 fingerprint clearance card, and shoulld be able to lift and/or move up to 35 pounds. Training is provided.
If you are interested in this position and would like to apply, please email cwalker@pcoa.org. For more information, please call 520-790-7262, x5017.
