The aim of our Summer Camp is simple: To welcome neighbours into a community of hope by providing a positive experience for our campers. Specifically, you will be volunteering for a VBS/Coding Camp for children aged 7 - 12.
This is a perfect opportunity for you to gain volunteering hours, meet new friends, and impact a child's life through the experiences you foster.
Shifts Available:
- VBS Camp: July 8-12, 2024 (from 8:30AM - 4PM).
- Coding Camps: July 15-19 and July 22-26, 2024 (from 8:30AM - 4PM).
Time Commitment: A minimum commitment of 1 week working full days (8:30am - 4:00pm) is required, and 1 week (3 hours a day) for camp preparation before camp starts.
Location: The Salvation Army Boundless Vancouver (3213 Fraser Street)
Main Responsibilities:
- General supervision, head counts, and safety checks of camp participants.
- Assist Youth & Families Coordinator with set-up, facilitation, and clean-up for games, activities, and lessons.
- Participate in all camp-specific activities, including recreational games and sports.
- Provide a safe and welcoming camp environment to camp participants.
- Maintain a high level of respect and professionalism when interacting with camp participants, parents, instructors, volunteers, and camp administration.
- Work collaboratively with other volunteers to lead games and divide camp responsibilities.
- Effectively communicate absences and tardiness with camp administration and instructors.
- Adhere to all policies and procedures set out by camp administration.
- Additional duties as directed by the camp administration.
Requirements
- Strong Interpersonal and Communication Skills
- Able to communicate in English
- At least 15 years old by the beginning of the summer
- A Criminal Record Check (free of charge) will be required
Qualifications
- A desire to work in a positive environment with children.
- Positive attitude and strong work ethic.
- Flexibility and willingness to try new activities
Training and Supervision: Our Youth & Families Coordinator, Neisy Castillo, will provide volunteers with training specific to this role.
