Mission Statement
Apex for Youth empowers Asian American youth from low-income and immigrant backgrounds to unlock their potential and a world of possibility by cultivating positive self-identity and transformative relationships with adults and their communities. Through activities that nurture their interests, supportive services that respond to their needs, and development of their inner strengths, youth develop a vision for their future and the resources and networks to support them in achieving their goals. Apex for Youth envisions a world where Asian American youth from low-income and immigrant backgrounds are free to pursue futures of their own making and be agents of positive change in their communities.
Description
There is a wide-spread misconception that Asian American youth do not need support, in part due to the model minority myth, resulting in a lack of social services and resources targeting this population. Apex for Youth supports students from Kindergarten to young professionals four years out of college. We do this with four key volunteer programs: Athletics, Elementary Enrichment, Mentoring, and College and Career Success. Our youth who may need more support social-emotionally can also receive services from our Mental Health department.
The work we do is powered by dedicated volunteers who play impactful roles as coaches, role models, and mentors. We serve over 2,500 youth across Manhattan, Queens, and Brooklyn, and nationally through our our virtual mentoring program.
We are currently recruiting for our summer and fall 2024 programs. Please apply if you are interested, we look forward to meeting you!
