NCHN needs volunteers to support Northern Colorado Access Point, our needle exchange / syringe access program.

You can help us keep our community safe by making sure that people who use drugs have access to sterile supplies, safe needle disposal, overdose prevention tools, and connections to further health care.

Do you like working with your hands? Help us create overdose prevention kits, safer drug use kits, first aid kits, and more, to hand out to clients.

Do you enjoy being outside and improving the city? Pick up improperly disposed syringes and trash with us on our community clean-up days.

Do you want to directly impact public health? Learn how to use naloxone to rescue someone from opioid overdose; then train other people in the community!

Do you want to help feed and clothe people in need? We get food from Vindeket (local food rescue no-cost market) and clothes from ClotheThePeople (local mutual aid group) - we need your help to deliver these to our office, keep our shelves stocked and organized, and find other community donors for clothes, hygiene supplies, and shelf-stable foods.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Openness towards people who use street drugs
* Openness towards homeless population
* Openness towards LGBTQ+ community
* Openness towards people living with HIV

We encourage people with personal experience in any of these to volunteer!

Our office is open during business hours M-F, with occasional weekend and evening events. Volunteers can have consistent shifts or flexible schedules, and we are happy to work with people completing community service requirements.

CDC data shows that needle exchanges protect public health: they reduce the presence of needles in the community, prevent the spread of HIV and viral hepatitis, reduce illicit drug injection, and prevent overdose deaths. (for more information: www.cdc.gov/ssp/syringe-services-programs-faq.html)

Northern Colorado Access Point provides services that are evidence-based, community-focused, and legal in the state of Colorado. We prioritize harm reduction, including the safety and autonomy of the people we serve.
