ATTN. SONOMA COUNTY GUITARISTS: Are you interested in becoming a volunteer Assistant Director or volunteer Guitar Instructor for the nonprofit Guitars Not Guns? We help protect at-risk childrens' lives through the joy of music!

The new Sonoma Chapter of Guitars Not Guns http://guitarsnotguns.org will operate closely with the Marin chapter to help deliver on the mission of this nationwide organization which has been around for 32 years. We provide free guitar lessons and free instruments to at-risk youth in a classroom setting of up to 20-25 students, as a healthy alternative to drugs and violence, and to help them build self-confidence. We have open positions for an Assistant Director and 3 Guitar Instructors. The goal is to begin our first 8-week course at the Rohnert Park Regional Library within the next several weeks.

Even if you can only make a partial commitment, I encourage you to step forward because I can pick up the slack as we build momentum.

ASSISTANT DIRECTOR:

Focusing on Sonoma county, occasionally assisting Marin County: Work with local organizations (libraries, schools community centers, police dept, etc.) using their facilities for our classes as they help enroll students. Recruit and train guitar instructors, work with the media, community outreach, work with sponsors who provide us free guitars, tuners, straps, etc., manage sign-in rosters, handle classroom logistics (size, availability, seating, etc.) communicate w parents, manage release forms, assist Director and Secretary/Treasurer.

GUITAR INSTRUCTORS:

Focusing on Sonoma county, occasionally assisting Marin County: Help teach classes of up to approximately 20-25 kids along with 4-5 other instructors to help tune guitars, guide the kids on fingering their chords and getting a nice tone out of their instruments, and provide extra assistance to those kids needing extra attention. You don't need to attend every single class, as we have a pool of instructors.
