Volunteer as a "Fixit Coach" to consult with and advise program participants on figuring out the problems with their broken items, then guide them through disassembly and repair. Whether items get fixed or not, the goal is for participants to learn about how the item was manufactured and how it works. Some familiarity with electronic repairs is helpful but no need for expertise. Curiosity and willingness to work alongside others to figure out the problem is desired.

Mission Statement
The Los Angeles Public Library provides free and easy access to information, ideas, books and technology that enrich, educate and empower every individual in our city's diverse communities.
Description
The Los Angeles Public Library is largest public research institution west of the Mississippi.
With more than 70 branch libraries and Central Library subject departments serving millions of Angelenos on a yearly basis, our programs are supported by thousands of volunteers in a variety of capacities. Whether providing one on one literacy tutoring, cutting out craft supplies for story time activities, helping serve summer lunch at the library, or serving as a Friend of the Library, all volunteers play a role in the work of LAPL.
If you would like to volunteer, but don't see a listing that matches your interests, please contact your local branch or the Volunteer Engagement Office. Opportunities and needs vary by location and fluctuate throughout the year.
Please note that the minimum age for volunteers is 14 (with the exception of 11-13-year-olds joining Teen Councils), minimum time commitments are required for most opportunities, adult volunteers working with children will be fingerprinted, and LAPL does not accept court-mandated community service.
