Join the Nantahala Hiking Club, as part of their Wednesday work trip program. The crew meets in Franklin N.C. at 8:45 a.m. for a safety briefing session and will wrap up by around 3:00 p.m
Work will include providing essential care to the trail to address, which might include:
- clearing drains so that erosion doesn't compromise the path
- cutting back brush to improve the hiking experience and the treadway
- refreshing the iconic white blazes to make sure hikers can find their way
- making repairs to trail features like shelters and privies
- maintaining the quality of the trail and its facilities by picking up litter, removing graffiti, or cleaning privies
- making improvements to the trail by adding features like steps or waterbars when needed

All the tools and training necessary to participate are provided. Please wear long pants and sturdy boots, and in your pack bring plenty of water (1-2 liters), lunch, a warm cap and rain jacket (in case of sudden weather changes), as well as work gloves if you have them.

Description
Appalachian Trail (A.T.) is a project built on civic engagement. It exists because people like you step up and help out in a variety of ways, outdoors or inside. Activities can be physical (such as Trail work or boundary maintenance), creative (like contributing photography or writing), or organizational (like planning or leading activities).
Volunteers gain new skills through their work. Whether you volunteer because you enjoy time in nature, want to forge new friendships, or appreciate having a deeper connection to a place you hold in high regard, we are glad you are here.
There are a variety of ways to contribute your talents and your time.
