Mission Statement
The mission of IU1's Adult Basic Education and Career Readiness program is to provide a quality academic, student-centered experience through positive student/teacher relationships, to improve the student's self-esteem, educational level, and employability skills, and to encourage self-sufficiency, independence, and life-long learning.
Description
The Adult Basic Education program supports adult basic education and career readiness classes throughout a four-county area serving nearly 500 adults each year. Our classes help students improve their reading, writing, and math skills in order to pass the GED(r) or HiSET(r) tests, gain or improve employment or transition to postsecondary schools. Intermediate Unit 1 is a HiSET(r) Testing Center and provides HiSET(r) testing once a month in Greene County.
The program is operated through funding by the Division of Adult Basic Education at the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE).
