Mission Statement
DuYe Moves' mission is to become a go-to destination on Governors Island and a ubiquitous part of Summer in the City, serving in the years and decades to come. DuYe Moves is our love letter to New York City, uniting residents and visitors through dance, yoga, and tai chi/qigong, as well as art classes in our vibrant space on Governors Island. Serving to transcend barriers and foster community through the joy of arts, DuYe Moves' free programs welcome the cultures of the globe to be shared in the beloved city to the world.
Description
On the lawns of Governors Island, we offer high-quality dance, Tai-Chi/QiGong, yoga, and arts classes for the city community and our global visitors free of charge. DuYe aims to remove barriers to participation and ensure that everyone in the community has the opportunity to engage in creative expression. DuYe celebrates cultural enrichment, diversity, and education by promoting cultural exchange through dance, movement, and arts programming. By featuring a variety of dance styles and artistic traditions, the initiative showcases the rich cultural heritage of the community and fosters cross-cultural understanding and appreciation. For some, music and movement are hobbies. For others, both music and dance serve as lifelines, transcending all barriers and leading people to joy and internal bliss. With this in mind, DuYe Moves was born. To create a safe third space for both residents and visitors of New York City to come together to learn, lean into creativity, and experience happiness in real time; amongst others who are seeking community through avenues of creative expression. DuYe Moves uses the humanities to establish, strengthen, and nurture communal bonds that exist because of a simple commonality, the love of the arts.
As DuYe Moves continues to grow, we look forward to collaborating with even more dance centers that feature the cultural dances of the world to lead participants to year-long opportunities for movement and dance.
