BNY Community Advocate:
- Training Required - next training May 4th!
- In person (with meetings monthly on Zoom)
- Make your own outreach schedule with the team; 1-year commitment!
- At least 5 hours per week, up to 20 hours available
- Personalized letter of recommendation after 1 year
- Advertises and promote our services through outreach and flyer distribution in low-income areas, community centers, and shelters.
- Attends public and private locations and events, tabling and promoting our work to people in need and the community at large.
- Great real-world experience for those pursuing or interested in social work, psychology, public administration, political science, community organizers, and anyone who wants to help people!
- Helps with our community impact events. Upcoming events include, NYC Pride, mental health resource fair on July 27. Past events included our Valentine’s Day Hot Meal and Warm Clothes hand out where we served over 100 meals and gave out over 80 items of winter clothing, our Thanksgiving Meal Hand Out where we served over 75 hot meals on Thanksgiving, our Voting registration events where we registered over 200 people in underserved areas, and our Community Clean Ups where we be cleaned up litter in underserved areas (Bushwick, Brooklyn and St. Mary’s Park, The Bronx).
- Delivers donations, groceries, and other essential items through our Food First Program.
- Delivers voter ballots and medication to people unable to leave their home, as needed.

Saturday, May 4 th 11-2pm EST
- This training is required to become a Community Advocate

Believe New York is a grassroots nonprofit based in NYC, established as a 501c3 in February 2021. Our mission is to empower individuals and families experiencing poverty, abuse, and mental health concerns by improving overall well-being, advancing social justice, and ensuring equitable access to resources.
Description
- The GetHelp service offers ongoing assistance through email, text, and phone, connecting people with our trained Client Advocates who provide personalized guidance, referrals, and regular check-ins. The program has been successful in providing resources and support in areas including access to housing, nutrition services, drug rehabilitation, domestic violence safety, employment, healthcare services, and more.
- The Open Space provides a no-cost, confidential, and inclusive platform for individuals to freely express their feelings and engage in non-judgmental mental health support.
The Food First Program addresses food insecurities by collecting and delivering donated goods to individuals and families in need, helping them focus on long-term progress towards their well-being.
- Pathways for Emerging Leaders is our newest program, focused on offering support to clients, and prospective clients, in college admissions, General Educational Development (GED), Vocational Programs, and employment through workshops and ongoing mentorship.
- Operation Community Success is our in-house research team who are dedicated to ensuring we stay up to date with the latest concerns of the communities we serve to ensure we improve our services and impact.
- Community Impact Events are events we organize to support underserved neighborhoods, our current clients, and prospective clients. Past projects have helped feed and clothe thousands of people, created registered new voters, and contributed to cleaner and more sustainable neighborhoods.
