Best Friends Animal Society is on a mission to end the killing of dogs and cats in America’s shelters by 2025. Danville’s animal shelter currently saves only 17% of the dogs and cats that enter its facility. The average save rate for shelters in the state of Virginia is over 86%... Danville deserves better!
We can save lives if we work together!
To approach a similar save rate as the rest of Virginia, we need to save 6 more animals per day.
We are looking for volunteers to help us with any of the following volunteer roles:
Pet Resource Center volunteer: We are looking for volunteers to "staff" our new Danville Deserves Better campaign office which will function as a community & pet resource center. Services include a pet food and supplies pantry, pet wellness and behavior training, no-kill education hub, and campaign supplies hub. Volunteers will assist visitors with whatever resources they need when they come.
Advocacy Field Canvasser : Go door-to-door in residential neighborhoods to speak with residents about supporting changes at the shelter. Duties include distributing fliers, collecting survey responses, collecting signatures, and talking to people about the issue. Learn more here: https://bit.ly/AdvocacyFieldCanvasserVol
Advocacy Event Outreach : Help "staff" tables at outreach events in order to distribute materials, speak to attendees, and recruit supporters, donors, and volunteers to help save Danville shelter animals. Learn more here: https://bit.ly/AdvocacyEventOutreachVol
Advocacy Campaign District Captain : Want to be a leader of this movement? The District Captain will be the local campaign lead and act as an on-the-ground liaison between Best Friends program staff and public officials. Learn more here: https://bit.ly/AdvocacyCampaignDistrictCaptain
Phone Banking:This can be done from home! Call local voters to let them know about the Danville Deserves Better campaign. Volunteers will be given scripts and call lists, and will document the outcomes for each phone call (i.e. conversation notes, left a voicemail, and if the call recipient wants/needs more information or follow up). A training video will be provided. For more information: https://bit.ly/ActionAlertVol.Want to be part of this exciting lifesaving work in Danville? If so, please contact us at bfvolcoord@bestfriends.org.
Black, Indigenous, People of color and LGBTQIA+ individuals are strongly encouraged to volunteer.
