Jubilee Housing is an affordable housing nonprofit in Washington, DC that provides a myriad of supportive services to residents to assist them on a path to self-sufficiency. As part of that work, we facilitate regular events and programs that help with community building, resource navigation, service delivery, and resident empowerment.

We are seeking volunteers with a background in planning and executing events of various size and scope. Part of the role would include identifying presenters and performers, along with managing outreach to residents, and other event logistics.

This is a flexible opportunity that typically would occur in the evenings during the work week.

About Jubilee Housing

Location:

1640 Columbia Road, NW, Washington, DC 20009, US

Mission Statement

Jubilee Housing’s mission is to build diverse, compassionate communities that create opportunities for everyone to thrive. We envision a city and a world where access to basic resources and opportunities are available to all people and where people live out these opportunities in the context of supportive community. Our contribution is to create and sustain a segment of this larger vision in our local community in the Nation’s Capital, and from this experience, influence change more broadly.

Description

Jubilee Housing provides safe, decent and affordable rental housing to low-income families and individuals in the Adams-Morgan neighborhood of Washington, DC. Jubilee Housing was founded in 1973 when volunteers from an ecumencial church, the Church of the Saviour, witnessed that poor families were being forced out of their homes. This group purchased an renovated two neglected and trash-ridden apartment buildings in order to preserve the homes of its tenants. Today Jubilee Housing operates eight buildings and houses more than 850 individuals. Jubilee Housing works collaboratively with other non-profits that offer job training, child care and medical care to residents. In this way the organization strives to follow Reverend Gordon Cosby's vision of a wholistic, supporting community in which the poor can achieve stability and financial self-sufficiency.
