Looking to fill in a daily volunteer that can commit 2 to 6 hours of time cleaning facility, detail cleaning cages, preparing diets, providing animal enrichment, feeding animals in care, etc.
Must have reliable transportation to and from our facility in Auburn, Maine
Understand that most of the job is cleaning, cleaning and more cleaning.
- *Wildlife rehabilitation is different than domestic rescue. Wild animals fear humans and need to maintain that fear in order to return to the wild. This is not an opportunity to "cuddle cute wild animals"! Not to mention wild animals SMELL TERRIBLE! Outside in the wide open space it's not so bad but many wild animals in a small indoor environment does not smell like flowers! If you can not handle strong odors, this is not for you!
- *This is not an "photo op" to have your picture taken with wild animal or take pictures of "cool animals" to post on your social media I don't mind if you keep your phone on you as long as you are working and not just trying to take pictures. Occasional pictures are fine but ask first.
- *Voices are to be kept low and quiet around patients to reduce stress. Also if you wish to listen to music or audio books while working, do so with an ear bud or headphones so the animals do not hear.
If wanting to work with rabies vector animals, proof of rabies vaccine and current titers are required. This includes bats, raccoons, fox, skunks, and groundhogs.
