VOLUNTEER JOB DESCRIPTION
Position OverviewAt Believe in Me, we envision a future where every child has the self-confidence they need to succeed. We are a dedicated team, funding and supporting children's charities that provide marginalized kids with a safe place to call home, a loving family, a sense of community, and ample opportunities to learn, grow, self-esteem, and experience joy. We are currently developing the 1st Gen College Hub app, aimed at empowering first-generation college students with comprehensive resources, personalized guidance, and a supportive community.
Role Summary:
We are seeking passionate Volunteer Translation and Localization Specialist to help adapt the app's content for different regions and languages, ensuring cultural relevance and accessibility. This role is crucial in expanding the reach of the 1st Gen College Hub app, making it a supportive resource for first-generation college students from diverse backgrounds.
Key Responsibilities- Translate and localize app content, including educational materials, user interface text, and support resources, from English into one or more target languages.
- Ensure that translations maintain the original meaning, tone, and intent, while being culturally relevant and accessible to users in the target region.
- Collaborate with the Content Creation Team to understand the context and significance of the material being translated.
- Work closely with UI/UX Designers to ensure localized content fits within the app's design parameters and maintains a high level of usability.
- Participate in quality assurance testing of the localized app versions to identify and correct any linguistic or functional issues.
- Provide feedback and suggestions to improve the app's cultural sensitivity and accessibility for non-English speakers.
- Proficiency in English and at least one other language, with a strong preference for native speakers of the target language.
- Previous experience in translation, localization, or a related field is highly desirable.
- Excellent writing and editing skills in the target language, with attention to detail and an understanding of cultural nuances.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a remote team environment and communicate effectively across different cultures and time zones.
- Passion for education, accessibility, and the mission of Believe in Me to empower marginalized youth.
- Commitment to volunteering 2-3 hours per week for content strategy and production tasks.
- Proven experience in application security or a related field, with a strong understanding of security protocols, cryptography, and vulnerability management.
- Familiarity with security assessment tools and methodologies, including penetration testing and security auditing.
- Knowledge of web and mobile application development and the associated security risks and mitigation strategies.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically and act swiftly in response to security incidents.
- Strong communication skills, capable of working collaboratively with a remote, volunteer-based team.
- A passion for cybersecurity and a commitment to using your skills to make a positive impact in the community.
This is a remote volunteering position with flexible hours to accommodate volunteers from various time zones.
