The Mission of the Alternatives to Violence Project (AVP) is "To empower people to lead nonviolent lives through affirmation, respect for all, building and enhancing of community, cooperation and trust." AVP offers three experiential workshops in nonviolence and conflict resolution. Founded in prison and developed from the life experiences of people who've been incarcerated, AVP encourages every person’s innate power to positively transform first themselves and then the world we live in. AVP for Youth was initiated in 2024 to guide young people, ages 10-30 to develop conflict resolution skills and develop effective approaches to violence.
Job Description:
- Organize and pack materials for Alternatives to Violence workshops, including printed materials, food and other office supplies,
- coordinate the transportation of materials to/from the workshop
- support the delivery and setup of food, including snacks, lunches, and dinners
- connect with Facilitators and AVP program Coordinator of any ordering needs.
Skills and requirements for the AVP Workshop Coordination Support Volunteer position:
- Reliable access to a vehicle
- Current Driver's license
- Familiarity with food safety
- Ability to lift/carry up to 25 pounds
- Administrative/customer service experience, preferred
- Highly organized
- Self-directed and comfortable working independently

Friends for a NonViolent World (FNVW) is a Quaker-inspired organization of people who affirm the dignity inherent in each human being. FNVW works to promote and create peace and justice in our community by using the principles and practices of nonviolence to transform conflict and to address the root causes of violence.
Description
We provide tools, training and opportunities for people to take leadership in creating a nonviolent society. We affirm the dignity and self-determination of each person, promoting nonviolence as a powerful means to accomplish all just ends. The goals of FNVW are to promote peace in the personal lives of individuals, in communities plagued by violence and in the political system of the United States. Additionally, FNVW strives to educate people on the impact of violence in all areas of our lives.
