Facility Technician

Department: Shelter Operations

Reports to: Shelter Manager and Director of Operations

Location: Onsite

Time Commitment: Flexible scheduling, 8 hours/month

Purpose of Position:

As a Facility Technician volunteer at Tree House Humane Society, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation and maintenance of our shelter facility. Your dedication and support will directly contribute to the well-being of our animal residents and help create a safe and comfortable environment for both animals and staff.

Responsibilities:

  • Facility Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance tasks to upkeep the cleanliness, functionality, and safety of the shelter premises.
  • Repairs and Maintenance: Assist in minor repairs and maintenance tasks such as plumbing, electrical, painting, and carpentry work under the supervision of the Shelter Manager and Director of Operations.
  • Groundskeeping: Help maintain outdoor areas including landscaping, lawn care, and removal of debris to ensure a pleasant outdoor environment for animals and visitors.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Assist in the inspection and maintaining maintenance logs of shelter equipment such as HVAC systems, water heaters, and other machinery to ensure proper functioning.
  • Inventory Management: Monitor and report inventory levels of cleaning supplies, tools, and equipment, and assist in restocking as needed.
  • Adherence to Policies: Adhere to all shelter policies and procedures, including safety protocols, confidentiality guidelines, and animal care standards.
  • Team Collaboration: Work collaboratively with shelter staff, volunteers, and other departments to support the overall mission and goals of the organization.

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Reliable, responsible, and committed to the welfare of animals.
  • Basic understanding of facility maintenance tasks and willingness to learn new skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Physical stamina and ability to perform tasks that may require bending, lifting, and standing for extended periods.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Previous experience in maintenance, landscaping, or related fields is required.
