VOLUNTEER JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Overview1st Gen College Hub is seeking a motivated and experienced Volunteer System Administrator to join our project team. This role is essential for maintaining the infrastructure that supports our web and mobile platform, designed to assist first-generation college students by providing personalized guidance, college search tools, financial aid information, mentorship programs, and more. The Volunteer System Administrator will ensure our systems are secure, efficient, and scalable, enabling us to make a significant impact on students navigating the challenges of college preparation.
Key Responsibilities- System Maintenance & Support: Ensure optimal performance of all server and networking systems. Regularly perform maintenance checks, updates, and patches.
- Security Management: Implement and manage security measures to protect data and infrastructure from cyber threats. Monitor systems for security breaches and respond to incidents with appropriate urgency.
- Database Administration: Assist in managing database environments, including performance tuning, backup, and recovery processes for MongoDB or similar databases.
- Collaboration with Development Teams: Work closely with web application developers to ensure seamless deployment and operation of web applications. Provide technical support and insight during development phases.
- Troubleshooting & Problem-Solving: Quickly identify and resolve system issues. Provide timely support to team members encountering technical difficulties.
- Infrastructure Planning: Contribute to the planning and implementation of system and network architectures that support the platform's growth and scalability.
- Documentation & Reporting: Maintain detailed documentation of system configurations, procedures, and changes. Report on system status, incidents, and maintenance activities.
- Proven experience as a System Administrator, Network Administrator, or similar role. Familiarity with cloud services (e.g., AWS, Azure) and web server technologies.
- Strong knowledge of system and network security, database management (preferably MongoDB), and experience with Linux/Unix administration.
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple issues simultaneously.
- Strong communication skills, capable of working collaboratively with cross-functional teams and explaining technical concepts to non-technical team members.

- Adaptability to work with volunteers from various time zones in a remote setting, with a willingness to accommodate flexible volunteering hours.
