Volunteer University Relations Specialist Job Description
Believe in Me is a nonprofit foundation focused on empowering marginalized youth through education, including first-generation college students. 1st Gen College Hub, a subsidiary of Believe in Me, is a comprehensive platform providing resources, personalized guidance, and a community for first-generation college students to support their journey to higher education success.
Volunteer Opportunity:
We seek a motivated Volunteer University Relations Specialist with a solid research, communication, and relationship-building background. This individual will play a crucial role in identifying and establishing partnerships with universities, colleges, scholarship funds, and donors to enhance the offerings of the 1st Gen College Hub.
Responsibilities
- Conduct targeted research to identify potential partnerships with educational institutions and funding sources.
- Initiate outreach through cold calls, emails, and social media to potential partners, utilizing Google Workspace for communication and organization.
- Manage and update contact and activity records in Salesforce, ensuring accurate tracking of partnership development efforts.
- Craft compelling presentations and proposals tailored to each potential partner, highlighting alignment with our mission and mutual benefits.
- Schedule and participate in partnership meetings, providing detailed follow-ups to both internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Collaborate closely with the strategic partnerships team to refine outreach strategies and engagement techniques.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Communications, Education, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years experience in partnership development, sales, or marketing, preferably within the education, nonprofit, or related sectors.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with experience preparing proposals and conducting presentations.
- Proficiency in Google Workspace for day-to-day communications and collaboration.
- Experience with CRM tools, specifically Salesforce, for managing contacts, partnerships, and engagement activities.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct research, analyze data, and identify strategic partnership opportunities.
- Familiarity with the higher education landscape, including understanding college admission processes, scholarship programs, and funding mechanisms.
Preferred Experience:
- Prior volunteer or professional experience in educational nonprofits or initiatives focused on supporting first-generation college students.
- Experience in initiating and nurturing relationships with educational institutions and donors.
- Knowledge of current trends and challenges in higher education, especially concerning first-generation college students.
