In person volunteers needed for patients that are either still in their home and/or with patients that reside in assisted living facilities. The goal of the volunteer is to provide much needed companionship and socialization to patients and often the caregivers as well. A volunteer visit may consist simply of socializing with the patient, the caregiver or both. Often caregivers are in desperate need of a break and would like a volunteer to stay with their loved one while the caregiver runs an errand, goes to an appointment or just takes some time to himself/herself. Activities while in the home or facility may include reading, listening, talking, a life review, watching a patient’s favorite shows, playing board or card games, scrapbooking, looking at books, fidget blankets, coloring, puzzles, respite, singing, playing musical instruments, sitting outside and enjoying the weather...

Description

Training is provided as part of our volunteer experience. You can make a positive difference by listening and supporting the patient and family, reading or sitting with patient for short periods of time, writing letters, checking on patients and families by telephone, sharing your music with a patient and their family, becoming a Veteran-to-Veteran volunteer, caring for the pets of the patient (walk and play with dogs, etc.), assisting with clerical office tasks and supporting community events, and more.
Hospice volunteers are exceptional people. They donate their time and efforts to provide care and comfort for someone with a life-limiting illness - a labor of love that requires a special person with just the right touch. They have a passion for helping others and make a profound difference in the lives of the patients, families, and communities we are privileged to serve.
