Gateway Hospice

Do you feel called to be at the bedside of someone who is in their last days and hours of Life?

Our End of Life Volunteer Vigil program places trained volunteers with patients whose families are unable to be with them, so that they are not alone in those final hours.

We are looking for volunteers to serve patients in Allegheny, Washington, and Beaver counties. Our vigil volunteers choose their availability and are scheduled as needed. Gateway Hospice volunteers are fully trained and oriented to be part of our interdisciplinary team.

Are you called to serve as an end of life companion?

Join our Gateway Family - and be part of a team of professionals, including Physicians, Nurses, Hospice Aides, Social Workers and Chaplains to provide quality end of life care.

For information and to schedule an interview please contact Suzanne Ferguson, Volunteer Coordinator at 412-536-2020 or sferguson@gatewayhospice.com

Mission Statement

"To provide quality end of life carethrough listening and education and responding to the needs of those we serve, our community and team."

Description

Gateway Hospice volunteers are the heart of our organization. Volunteers do a variety of different things that help promote our mission of providing quality end of life care. From providing a listening ear as a companion volunteer, to providing respite for the caregiver to go grocery shopping or to their own medical appointment, to managing special projects in our North Hills office as "behind the scenes" support. Volunteers also can get involved with our bereavement program, making phone calls to bereaved family and friends. Music and art are a powerful way volunteers can connect with our patients, especially those with dementia. Pets are welcomed to pay friendly visits to our patients residing in nursing homes. The possibilities go on and on.
