Learning English is one of the biggest challenges many refugees face when resettling in the United States. Additionally, it's one of the most important things for them to learn in order to become self-sufficient. While we provide ESL classes to our clients, it is important for our clients to be able to practice speaking in a safe, low stakes environment - that's where you come in!
Our English Practice Partner Volunteers meet with clients in their homes on a weekly to bi-weekly basis for a minimum of two months. Volunteers are not expected to teach English, but rather to give their partners the opportunity to practice their own speaking. Volunteers will be equipped with conversation starters, worksheets, and language learning games, activities, and ideas.
Volunteers must attend an orientation, complete a background check, and provide proof of a COVID-19 vaccination to be eligible to volunteer.
