LITA of Contra Costa has been serving Bayberry in Concord for many years. The Activity Director Isaac Silva has requested LITA find volunteers with gentle well behaved and responsive pets to encourage residents to make new friends and reach out to engage with he loving energy dogs can bring
Times are somewhat flexible although more residents are awakeand more alert just before lunch, so 11 am os OK. After lunch at 2 pm is very workable, as well.
Standard precautions apply regarding vaccine status. The facility has volunteer paperwork and a background check is part of the oritentation and acceptance process.
Every visitor's temperature is recorded and sign in IS EASY AND ELECTRONIC.
LITA's open patio garden at Bayuberry will be a good place to start. Ask Isaac Silva or assistant Greta which residents can be wheeled out to meet you and your pet . There are patio chairs and shade so its a pleasant place to hang out on your first visit.
Once a week visits would be amazing but Bayberry staff would be happy with twice or even once a month as long as you stick to the schedule and calendar which is all important at any post acute care facility. Thank you for your interest!

"Love Is The Answer" LITA of Contra Costa (since 1980) involves community members of all ages, educating and supporting youth, students families and aspiring artists to be Volunteers to fulfill our Mission to improve quality of life for senior & disabled persons living full time in nursing care as well as selected memory care and assisted living facilities in Contra Costa County.
Description
LITA of CC serves skilled nursing and assisted living facilities, primarily in Contra Costa County. LITA is non-sectarian. There is no charge for LITA volunteer services.
MUSIC AWAKENINGS: LITA has long supported the miracle of Music to enhance healing & joy. Volunteers program tablets and phones especially for an individual patient (who may have speech, sight or social disabilities) with access to of music and movies from their prime of life stimulate golden memories, reducing stress, insomnia , agitation depression and alleviating sundowning. Spontaneously singing along with beloved lyrics, patients have created new pathways torestore speech.
LITA of Contra Costa encourages Intergeneration Appreciation, with events and holiday or project visits for groups from preschool through High School and College. Family visits are also encouraged and supported within this Love Is The Answer volunteer program.
Arts Volunteers at all ages & levels of perfecting audio/visual, music, dance, acting, poetry and other performing & fine arts, share these gifts with seniors in continuing care. Our most popular LITA program, suspended during covid and still not back was Pet Visitors bringing gentle dogs, cats, turtles birds.
