High Peaks Hospice is seeking volunteers to help families and patients to assist our patients and our organization in a variety of ways. We serve Warren, Washington, Essex, Hamilton, and Franklin counties.

Volunteer opportunities include specialty service such as therapy animals, hairdressing, massage therapy, house cleaning, meal prep and more. We also offer in-home patient visits for socialization, respite, or maybe just running errands. Being a volunteer does not include hands on or medical care but we do welcome volunteers who provide Reiki, Comfort Touch, or are an End-of-Life Doula.

Other ways to volunteer is to support outreach efforts, office work, or even speaking at events. Volunteers may also help support our Pet Peace of Mind program. This program allows us to help families with simple pet care needs like walking their animals, clean up, taking the animals to the vet or groomer.

Hospice is a unique opportunity to help people on their end of life journey while supporting their families and friends. Many places have volunteers, but Hospice is the only organization required by law to have volunteers. Hospice volunteers are extraordinary because it takes a very compassionate person to be able to volunteer to assist those at the end of life. Is this you?

About High Peaks Hospice

Location:

Mission Statement

High Peaks Hospice provides end of life care that listens with respect, cares with compassion, supports with choice and comforts with understanding wherever you call home.

Description

Our care focuses not only on the person who is living with a terminal illness, but also on their family Hospice care is not about dying, it’s about how you live - in comfort and with dignity. Patients are encouraged to articulate their preferences while participating in choices about their own care.

Once on service you will receive in-home visits from our Nurses and LPN’s; medications, equipment and supplies related to the hospice illness; emotional and practical support from our social workers (who can help with so much); spiritual support from our nondenominational chaplain; and support and company from a volunteer for tasks that become more difficult as the disease progresses. Lastly, you will have 24/7 access to contact us for questions or emergent visits.

With our emphasis on pain control and symptom management, patients are given comfort so they may enjoy the time they have with those they love. Loved ones, in turn, will be supported and taught how to best care for their loved one now and looking ahead into the future.
