PR Internship - Broadcast Journalism & Public Relations

Duties: During this internship, the students will be working on short marketing videos; interviews; and other articles that will be uploaded for a live feed on our website, Facebook, and other social media pages. These mini productions may involve interviewing, coordinating script, research, shooting footage, selecting footage and editing.

Student will also be responsible for the following:

· Create Evergreen Content

· Writing one blog-style article a week

· Creating white papers

· Researching new media and blogging contacts and conducting outreach

· Newsletter; Interviewing sponsors, teens and volunteers and produce human-interest pieces for publication.

· Develop Social Media strategy resulting in increased brand awareness and relevance in the Teen Community

· Create editorial calendar for all content related to strategy implementation

· Oversee efforts for grassroots messaging and content placement on social media outlets as defined in strategy such as blogs, message boards, social networks, video upload hubs, etc.

· Manage all relationships, assignments and content from contributors

· Collaborate with executive team and key volunteers to develop relevant stories ideas and content direction

· Work directly with volunteers to create unique content including text stories, podcasts and videos

· Act as editor of all content mixing self-created content, and contributed content to achieve consistent tone of voice and regular entries within various social media vehicles

Additional Exposure: Student may also be exposed to researching media outlets, pitching stories to media, event sponsor solicitation and follow-up, updating and developing media and sponsor lists, following up with media, Film and represent SUFKS at events, scheduling interviews with media, writing press releases, and media alerts.

This Internship is a great way to get a taste of non-profit development. This is an excellent opportunity for a well-spoken "people person" who's interested in building their resume and gaining new skills & experience in broadcast journalism, public relations, event planning and project management.

Hours:

This internship offers a flexible schedule with a six-eight hour a week minimum commitment. Interns may be asked to attend an occasional special event on a Saturday or Sunday. Interns are required to attend one weekly strategy meeting location and time to be determined by group.

· Requirements: Students who are currently attending an accredited college and have achieved junior or senior status are eligible. A variety of majors qualify including Journalism, Broadcasting, Communication, Public Relations, and Advertising. Participants must have good computer skills, videography experience, be a self-starter who excels at generating story ideas and meeting deadlines. Excellent written and verbal communication abilities and knowledge of current events. A 3.0 GPA or above is recommended. Students must be able to meet the minimum time commitment.

Compensation:

The position is not paid, but we are happy to work with any academic requirements the intern may have, for college credit for their efforts or serve as a reference for future career pursuits.

Description

StandUp for Kids - Oceanside has been operating since 2001. The Oceanside chapter operates the following core programs:

  • Outreach Center
  • Mentoring
  • Apartment Support

All of our programs have the overall goal of leading homeless youth to self-sufficiency and preventing at-risk youth from gang involvement, substance abuse, teen pregnancy, and dropping out of high school.

Our Oceanside chapter has had the same core motto since it’s inception.
"This is Home"
We have and continue to be a "home" for kids who do not currently have one.

Over our years of operating an outreach center, the Oceanside chapter has serviced thousands of youth. We do this with our strong volunteer group, our immensely supportive community and through individual’s caring enough to make a difference.
