Are you passionate about fitness and helping others lead healthier lives? We're seeking a dedicated volunteer stretch instructor/fitness trainer with a relevant certificate or license and prior experience to lead a 1-hour stretch class for seniors residing in low-income subsidized housing. This initiative aims to promote movement and well-being among elderly and disabled residents.
About the Project:
- The stretch class is tailored to accommodate seniors and individuals with disabilities, including those in wheelchairs.
- The class will take place in our fitness room.
- Attendance is expected to range from 6 to 10 residents per session.
Requirements:
- Must possess a relevant fitness certificate.
- Prior experience in leading fitness classes, especially for seniors and individuals with disabilities, is preferred.
Volunteer Responsibilities:
- Lead a 1-hour beginner stretch class focusing on flexibility and mobility.
- Provide gentle exercises suitable for elderly and disabled participants.
- Foster a supportive and inclusive environment for all attendees.
Commitment:
- Volunteers are needed once a month initially, with potential for increased frequency as attendance grows.
- Classes are tentatively scheduled for the second Friday of each month, however we are flexible with the schedule.

Mission Statement
W. Leo Daniels Towers, an independent living housing project: To provide elderly persons and handicapped persons with housing facilities and services specially designed to meet their physical, social and psychological needs, and to promote their health, security, happiness, and usefulness in longer living.
Description
On July 9, 1979, an eight story 2.8 million dollar project for the elderly and nonelderly disabled was completed; The W. Leo Daniels Towers is located at 8826 Harrell, Houston, Texas. In August, 1979, the Towers opened its doors to one hundred plus residents, many of whom still reside at the project. During the thirty years, occupancy has never dropped below ninety-seven percent. The Towers presently has a beauty shop, a washateria and a cafeteria with a central dining room that accommodates 299 persons.
In 1998 a remedial education class was supported by Houston Community College. In 2002, a Computer Technology Center was acquired and has existed since 1980. The program is designed to assist thirty (30) residents to maintain an independent lifestyle by offering on site services such as Nutrition, Housekeeping and Personal Assistance.
