Notre Dame Mission Volunteers, AmeriCorps (NDMVA) is seeking applicants to serve as a Full-time AmeriCorps Member at Covenant School of Bridgeport in Bridgeport, CT from August 16, 2025- June 30, 2025.

ND AmeriCorps Members are asked to commit to a one-to- two year fellowship intended to develop their knowledge and skills as educational instructors. As a member of the NativityMiguel Coalition, Covenant School of Bridgeport is on an extended day program, running from approximately 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM and includes a Summer Academy in the month of June-July.

AmeriCorps members play an integral part in the life of the school, supports instruction in the classrooms, and receive training and support from the Principal and mentor teachers. In addition to classroom instruction responsibilities, NDA members participate in the school’s advisory, athletics/activities, enrichment and service programs.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with instruction in subjects of the member's strengths (ELA, math, science, social studies) to a small class size of 5th, 6th, or 7th grade students (11 boys per grade)
  • Serve as an advisor to small group of students
  • Supervise school-day activities
  • Supervise/lead/coach afternoon activities, e.g. Study Hall, sports and/or enrichment
  • Coordinate other school programs as assigned by the principal such as field trips, service projects, showcase events, celebrations, and similar
  • Meet and plan with instructional coaches and mentor teachers.
  • Lead a minimum of one weekend day field trip per month.
  • Collaborate with a co-advisor on leading Advisory curriculum for an assigned class.
  • Participate in faculty meetings and professional development.
  • Participate in special events, e.g. Thanksgiving dinner, Harvest Festival, dances, theater, showcases, etc.
  • Participate in Summer Academy in mid-June to mid-July

Applicant Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree is required (teaching certificate not required).
  • Experience working with youth, middle school grades preferred.
  • A firm commitment to social justice and CSB’s mission.
  • Generosity of spirit, exceptional work ethic, flexibility, and a willingness to consistently learn.
  • U.S. Citizen or Legal Permanent Resident


AmeriCorps Member Benefits:

  • Subsidized housing offered by the site
  • Living Allowance: Because Notre Dame- AmeriCorps is partnered with the Corporation for National and Community Service, we are able to offer our members a yearly living allowance which is distributed bi-weekly over the 11 months term. The pre-tax figure for 2024-2025 is $18,700.
  • The Education Award: Upon completion of a service term, AmeriCorps members receive a taxable education award of approx. $7,000. The education award can be applied to qualified student loans or future education.
  • Student Loan Forbearance: Members of NDA are eligible for forbearance of federal student loans during their term of service. This means that while a member is serving, they do not make payments on qualifying loans. In addition, the National Trust will pay the interest that accrues on the loan at the end of the term of service.
  • Optional Health Insurance: We provide optional free healthcare while you serve with NDA.
  • Child Care: NDA members may also be eligible for child care benefits. The AmeriCorps Child Care Program covers up to the state’s local market rate for child care fees and makes payments directly to the member’s caregiver.
