Come and support creatempls' mission: dedicated to preparing students in underrepresented communities for rewarding careers, by removing barriers and providing accessible STEM learning programs at no cost to the students or families. We work at many sites across the Twin Cities and surrounding suburbs. Our goal is to remove the barriers of transportation and access to hands-on learning, so we travel to where students are! A background check and initial volunteer training with creatempls is required.

NO previous knowledge or experience with coding is required.

About CREATEMPLS

Location:

PO Box 8521, Minneapolis, MN 55408, US

Mission Statement

Closing the STEM achievement gap with engaging technology learning programs to prepare students for the future of work.

Description

We are committed to inclusion and actively remove the barriers of access, transportation, and cost to coding and robotics programs. We offer hands-on technology classes for K-12 students through collaborative partnerships with local schools and non-profit organizations and provide ongoing support for students through community and business mentorships.

createMPLS provides STEM education programming in Minneapolis, specifically in the neighborhoods of Phillips, Hawthorne, and Jordan that have endured historic underinvestment. Our population includes K-12 grade students with a majority female and students of color.

Our evidence-based youth STEM programming includes out-of-school learning coding and robotics learning labs, out-of-school competitive teams, school day curriculum, and paid youth internships. In FY21 we served 525 students from across three host sites with an average of 25 hours of technology education per student and are preparing to serve over 1,000 students in FY22.
