A Dementia Day Support Assistant plays a crucial part in enhancing the quality of life for elderly individuals with dementia by creating a nurturing and stimulating environment and promoting their wellbeing through meaningful interactions. This role will involve:

1. Environmental setup: prepare and arrange the day centre's communal area to ensure it is safe and dementia friendly.
2. Refreshment service: prepare and serve tea and coffee in accordance with preferences.
3. Socialisation: this role primarily involves engaging one-on-one or in group activities with people with dementia to enhance their social and cognitive wellbeing. Activities may include conversations, games, music.
4. Emotional support: offer patience and empathy to individuals with dementia, fostering a sense of security and trust.

Applicants must be empathetic, patient, and outgoing, comfortable initiating and engaging in conversations and activities during the service. Prior experience with dementia is not required as you will receive adequate training through your volunteering with us.

  • The time commitment of this role is flexible to your preferences. Our Dementia Day Support Service runs 5 times a week in various locations so you have your choice of date and time. Even volunteering 1hr every 2 weeks could have a huge impact.
