Outreach Coordinator for Children Program Volunteer

A Free Bird is a 501(C)(3) nonprofit organization based in New York City. Our organization provides children diagnosed with cancer the opportunity to explore their artistic passions. Artistic expression has been proven to play an instrumental role in the healing process. We support children affected by cancer in their exploration of a range of self expression such as art, music, acting, poetry, writing, singing and other creative mediums.


Job Summary:

An Outreach Coordinator for the Children's Program is responsible for, but not limited to, contributing to day-to-day operations, assisting A Free Bird in community engagement, fostering relationships with community groups, families in need, and stakeholders in children's programs. This entails brainstorming potential partnerships, methods, referrals, and gathering information and resources to engage with local communities. The role also involves planning community outreach activities and maintaining a calendar for outreach initiatives and events.


Qualifications:
  • Education in marketing degree, public relations degree or communications degree preferred
  • Previous experience in marketing, fundraising and/or special events
  • Excellent verbal and communication and interpersonal skills
  • Great organizational skills and the ability to multitask and meet multiple deadlines
  • Proficient computer skills including: Microsoft Office, website software and Social Media
  • Nonprofit organizational experience with integrated business management tools and CRM software, Salesforce experience, with a good understanding of finance and budgeting.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, effectively and collaboratively with all levels of staff, participants and community members, with excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
Responsibilities:
  • Actively contribute to day-to-day operations and help the organization connect with the community.
  • Cultivate and foster relationships with various community groups, families in need, and stakeholders involved in children's programs.
  • Brainstorm potential partnerships and collaboration methods to enhance the organization's impact.
  • Provide referrals, information, and resources to individuals and families in need, directing them to relevant support services.
  • Plan and execute community outreach initiatives, considering the specific needs and demographics of the target audience.
  • Maintaining a calendar for outreach initiatives and events, ensuring timely and organized execution of planned activities.
  • Work closely with stakeholders such as schools, local government agencies, and other community organizations to strengthen collaborative efforts.
  • Actively promoting and raising awareness about the children's programs offered by A Free Bird within the community.
  • Identify and mobilize resources, including volunteers, materials, and donations, to support children's programs.
  • Collect relevant data during outreach activities and prepare reports to assess the effectiveness and impact of the programs.
  • Advocating for the needs of children and families, working to address systemic issues affecting the community.
  • Represent A Free Bird in public forums, meetings, and events to articulate its mission and engage with the community.
  • Collaborating with other organizations and agencies to enhance the scope and effectiveness of children's programs.
  • Gathering feedback from the community to assess the organization's performance and identify areas for improvement.

*Internships are unpaid and for credit only. If you are not receiving college credit for this internship you will not be eligible.

Additional Information

This position requires a three month commitment and at least 5 - 10 hours per week.*

*Mandatory commitment is based on position level.

Due to COVID-19, we are 100% remote.

Proper at home working capabilities include laptop, phone, and connection to reliable internet connectivity. Must be available to have a phone / video conversation at least twice per week.
