Mission Statement
Through seminars, 'fireside chats', and funding for counseling as well as legal services for survivors of sexual assault, WAI works to empower survivors with the tools and resources necessary to find justice and healing. This organization is rooted in the belief that financial restrictions should not be a barrier to receiving support and that survivors deserve a space to find community and share their stories without fear of shame or social stigma.
Description
The Women’s Advocacy Initiative (WAI) is a non-profit organization founded to promote the vital message of self-advocacy to women and girls, primarily regarding sexual assault.
WAI aspires to reduce the shame and stigma associated with sexual violence, and to provide financial support for counseling, advisory, and legal services to individuals who choose to pursue legal action or a Title IX complaint against their assailants. This also includes opportunities for survivors to share their stories through art, poetry, short stories, quotes, interviews, and even a single sentence as well as coffee chats with our CEO and Founder, all with the aim of reducing social stigma surrounding sexual assault, promoting self-advocacy, and creating community.
Amidst both a justice system and an entire culture that work so profoundly to silence survivors, WAI works to equip women with the necessary tools and knowledge to advocate for themselves, make informed decisions, and stand up for their rights.
