Do you have a passion for connecting with teens and making a meaningful impact in the community? Join us at Rec Night!

What is Rec Night? Rec Night is a vibrant, weekly program where inner-city middle and high school students can come to have fun, relax, and connect in a safe environment. From games and music to activities that foster growth and positive relationships, Rec Night is a place where kids can just be kids, surrounded by caring adult mentors.

Why Volunteer with Us? If you're looking to give back and enjoy working with young people, Rec Night offers a truly rewarding opportunity to make a difference in their lives. As a volunteer, you'll help provide support, encouragement, and mentorship, fostering a safe and positive culture. We welcome volunteers who bring patience, understanding, and a desire to build genuine relationships with youth.

Who We’re Looking For: Our Rec Night volunteers typically include adults aged 30-60 who are looking to invest their time and energy into helping young people. Whether you're single, an empty nester, or simply someone who finds joy in serving the next generation, we welcome you to join our team. You’ll be part of a community that values the impact of your life experience and compassion.

Volunteer Responsibilities:

  • Be a positive role model, helping set the tone for a welcoming and safe environment.
  • Lead games, encourage participation, and engage with students in meaningful conversations.
  • Foster a culture of respect, positivity, and inclusiveness.
  • Support program staff in setting up activities and ensuring a smooth and enjoyable evening for all.

Time Commitment:

  • Thursdays from 7-9 pm (with options for additional involvement at special events).
  • First Thurday of the month we have volunteer trainings with dinner provided starting at 6pm.

What You’ll Gain:

  • The chance to make a real difference in young people’s lives.
  • A community of like-minded volunteers committed to impacting the next generation.
  • An experience of personal growth as you connect and learn from the students we serve.

Join Us in Being the Light! Becoming a Rec Night volunteer means being part of something bigger-a beacon of hope and support for youth who need it most. Together, we can help them grow into confident, compassionate adults.

About FIRST GLANCE STUDENT CENTER

Location:

943 KENMORE BLVD, AKRON, OH 44314, US

Mission Statement

We exist to connect students and their communities to Christ and the church through real, loving, and non-threatening avenues.

Description

First Glance is a youth center that operates in the Kenmore neighborhood of Akron. Kenmore is our home, our family, and our community. Since our founding in 2000, we’ve hosted a wide variety of programming for students of all ages. We offer teenagers and young adults a safe place where they are loved and valued - and ultimately, through Christ, we provide them with hope. We have seen over 10,000 different students come through our doors and leave as part of our family, empowered to reach their potential and become who God created them to be.
