Help local history come to life as a Tour Guide at the Interurban Railway Museum in downtown Plano!

Volunteer Tour Guides greet scheduled groups and walk-ins, keep accurate visitor records and educate on museum exhibits and railway travel history. Ideal for cheerful, proactive individuals with a passion for customer service. Interest in trains, engineering or Plano history is a plus, but not a requirement. The most important requirement is interest in engaging and educating visitors of all ages. Similarly, if you're a student interested in history or museum studies, this is a great opportunity to get relevant experience!

Additional requirements:
*Must be 18 or older
*Complete a background check
*Must understand and recall written and verbal instructions
*Interested in volunteer a minimum of 1 day/week on an ongoing basis (weekdays) OR volunteering every other Saturday

Mission Statement

The Plano Conservancy for Historic Preservation, Inc., a Texas corporation 501 (c)(3) non-profit, is an organization dedicated to promoting civic pride in the past, to increasing preservation awareness through education and public outreach, and to providing financial assistance to protect and preserve our heritage resources for this and future generations.

Description

While daily seeking new ideas and avenues to pursue that enhance the Interurban Museum, The Conservancy has been very successful in offering education programs to all ages, sponsoring an annual city wide archaeology dig; National Preservation Week activities; and undertaking an ongoing oral history program, as well as providing scholarships to graduating high school seniors interested in the preservation field.
