About Samaritans

As part of a respected international network with 400 centers in 40 countries, Samaritans plays a critical role in a global effort to provide emotional support and crisis response. The hotline provides immediate and ongoing support and is a safe point of entry to care, especially for marginalized communities w ho may be hesitant to engage with traditional clinical or government-run services including: those living with serious mental illness, BIPOC, LGBTQ+, youth, elderly, veterans, AAPI and others. This safe point of entry refers to the caller’s ability to maintain anonymity and Samaritans’ policy of complete confidentiality, which is different from most other services.

The Role: Challenging, Rewarding, and Invaluable

Our work is demanding, the training thorough, but the experience is profoundly rewarding. Volunteers must be focused, disciplined, and committed to the cause. You'll join a diverse group of dedicated volunteers in NYC, working together in a supportive environment located in a convenient Union Square location.
