This position functions within the Division of Administration at Reconstruction Era National Historical Park. The volunteer will provide the work and assistance necessary to support the visual info specialist and accessibility coordinator at Reconstruction Era National Historical Park. Parts of this position are also open to a virtual volunteer willingly to support the visual info specialist for the Reconstruction Era Network.
Major Duties
Digitial Accessibility
- Assist the park VIS in captioning, audio description, and alt text on all digital platforms from social media to the website and various interpretation program displays.
- Edit and fix spelling, grammar, and timing of already existing alt text and captioning.
- Assist in the development of an accessibility page on the park website and park app.
- Assist the park VIS in making sure all park forms and documents are 508 compliant. Help fellow staff and volunteers in updating and creating accessible digital content when it comes to programs and communications.
Visitor Services
- Assist accessibility coordinator and facilities teams in making the park more accessible.
- Help collect accessibility data of trails and facilities.
- Help project plan and implement features throughout the park to help with visitor and staff accommodations.
