This position functions within the Divisions of Administration and Facilities at Reconstruction Era National Historical Park. The work involves traveling to various sites throughout Beaufort County and Reconstruction Era NHP to clean, repair, and update visual info signs as well as building viewpoints. The volunteer will provide the work and assistance necessary to support the visual info specialist and facilities team at Reconstruction Era National Historical Park.
Major Duties
Wayside Tracking and Inventory
- Assist VIS in documenting and tracking wayside sign locations throughout the park and partnering properties. Volunteer will collect data and condition reports for each wayside, reporting info to the VIS.
- Photos and detailed descriptions to track the wear and tear of the wayside markers will be taken twice a year for reporting.
Wayside Upkeep
- Volunteers will clean and do light maintenance on the signs, removing residue and foreign materials from panels and making sure they are securely placed and held together.
- Assist in covering, preserving, and replacing wayside signs in the event of extreme weather conditions.
Window & Park Sign Upkeep
- While serving at wayside locations, site specific windows and signs might also need cleaning. Volunteers will assist park staff in cleaning and upkeeping visitor viewpoints.
