ORGANIZATION: AgeSpan (formerly Elder Services of the Merrimack Valley

Position Overview: The Volunteer Meals on Wheels Driver transports prepared meals to homebound older adults and people with disabilities throughout the Merrimack Valley and North Shore. The volunteer position involves picking up meals at a central location and delivering them along a pre-determined route directly to the homes of several older adults in your area. Once you’re done, you return the delivery packaging items and you can get back to your regular day knowing you’ve made a positive impact!

Requirements:

· Must be 18 or older.

· Complete a volunteer application & CORI background check.

· Musthave personal reliable transportation, currentdriver’s license and musthave automobile insurance witha minimum liability coverageof $20,000/$40,000.

· Requiresliftingand carrying upto50pounds,getting in and out of a vehicle up to 30 times per day, bending, reaching, twisting, walking, and climbing multiple flights of stairs at residences that do not have elevators.

· Requires driving in four season weather conditions.

· Abletoread, write, understand, and interpret basicEnglish.

Location: We have openings available in various cities/towns throughout the North Shore and Merrimack Valley.

Time Commitment: We can set up a volunteer schedule that works with yours. The program runs Monday- Friday. Volunteers can deliver 1-5 days a week. Typically, shifts are about 3 hours per day, in the mornings from approx. 9am-12:00pm.

Description

AgeSpan, formerly Elder Services of the Merrimack Valley, Inc. is a private, non-profit corporation established in 1974 by a group of citizens throughout the Merrimack Valley who were committed to developing programs and services for elders. The Agency is governed by a policymaking Board that oversees the management of the Agency. Members are a blend of representatives from Councils on Aging and At Large members from communities in our area with 51% of members over the age of 60.

AgeSpan has become a leader in creating services, programs and opportunities for older adults. As an Aging Services Access Point (ASAP), the Agency receives state funding to provide services designed to maintain an elder's independence at home and in the community. AgeSpan is also the designated Area Agency on Aging (AAA), receiving federal funding to fund community services and provide information and referral to elders, families and the community. The Agency also receives funding from a variety of grants, foundations and fund raising efforts and matching funds from local communities.
