The GED Exam Reader entails administering the GED Exam (subject areas: Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies - one subject test and one tester per session), according to approved accommodations, to visually impaired adult students in our academic program who cannot read standard print and are pursuing their high school equivalency diploma. The volunteer will read the test to the student and record their responses on the answer sheets. The tests are timed and consist primarily of multiple-choice questions, with the exception of Language Arts, which also includes an essay writing component, and Math, which includes a few numerical responses.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in any field
- Ability to read and understand up to 12th grade/entry level college academic content in any of the following domains, preferably more than one - specify which ones: Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies
- Native English speaker
- Clear speaking voice with excellent diction and pronunciation
- Accuracy in recording information Personal qualities: reliability, trustworthiness, patience, flexibility
Beneficial:
- Prior teaching/tutoring experience, especially those with visual or other disabilities
- Familiarity with standardized tests and working within time limits
Requirements:
Total training hours will be approx. 10-20 hours, based on need. Each training session will take approx. 1-1.5 hours. Training will be provided by the instructor in each subject area. Training in Math will take place on Tuesdays and/or Thursdays. Training in Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies will be on Wednesdays. Scheduling will be based on availability of the parties involved.

REQUIREMENTS
- Each testing session may take between 3-8 hours and will be for one subject area on a date for which the tester has registered. The test day will be on a weekday (Monday-Friday) and typically begins at 9 am.
