Shakespeare Opera Theatre seeks volunteer Producers to help develop our brand and raise funds for our burgeoning regional performing arts company. We promote community engagement, literacy and learning, opportunities for young people and seniors, veterans, and those with disabilities. We offer performances principally in McLean, Virginia, with an ancillary location in The Plains, VA. With an already well-developed artistic plan, we need help on the "business" side to reach the heights of what is possible. Northern Virginia lost most of its classical performing arts companies during the pandemic. We were prudent financially and managed to stay afloat, and now we are ready to keep growing and developing, with your help!

Mission Statement
Founded in 2015, Shakespeare Opera Theatre is a professional 501c3 non-profit performing arts company specializing in classical theatre with classical music. We’ve been described as "classical mash-up," and we think that fits us superbly! Our mission is to provide affordable and intimate performances of classic works, employing regional artists, including those with disabilities, marginalized groups, and veterans. We are proud to be women founded, women owned and women-run! But we love our men, too!
Description
2023 marks SOT’s 8th season, and we are excited to continue on in our mission to provide affordable and intimate performances of classic works with a twist. Ticket sales, as with most nonprofit performing arts companies, do not begin to meet all of our expenses, and we depend on partnerships with businesses and individuals in our community to help us bridge the budgetary gap. SOT offers those with lower incomes, military (both active duty and veterans) and first responders tickets free of cost, and offers discounts for groups of students and seniors. We hold a special matinee performance for those with mental and emotional challenges each season, presented by our Abilities Committee. SOT regularly invites local school groups to performances and to participate in Q and A sessions with the artists. We employ professional musicians, actors and singers from our region and beyond who are vital to maintaining the high level of quality our audiences have come to expect. We also give opportunities to learn about and participate in all areas of production to local high school and college students.
