The Here For Texas Mental Health Navigation Line is currently seeking volunteers interested in becoming trained mental health navigators!

Goal

Grant Halliburton Foundation developed the Here For Texas Mental Health Navigation Line to help individuals find appropriate care for their mental health needs. The Navigation Line offers resources, information and support via telephone, email, and chat in English and Spanish.

The goal of the Navigation Line is to make life-changing-and life-saving-connections between patients and providers just a phone call away.

Get Involved

We need volunteers to serve on the Navigation Line. Our trained volunteer mental health navigators are equipped to help all types of callers, ranging from people seeking information and resources for themselves, to caregivers, family, friends, clergy, hospitals, schools, mental health providers, law enforcement, and community agencies. This can be a great opportunity for anyone who wants to play a critical supporting role in the lives of those with mental health needs.

We're looking for English-speaking and bilingual (English/Spanish) volunteers. Previous mental health experience is not required.

Training

The Foundation provides a comprehensive training course to prepare you for this role:

· Phase 1: A 28-hour classroom training course to learn about mental health issues, communication skills, treatment options, cultural considerations, and crisis intervention.

· Phase 2: A period of observing incoming calls, followed by a period of answering calls and providing appropriate support and information with supervision.

· Phase 3: Mental health navigators begin answering calls on their own.

Mission Statement

Grant Halliburton Foundation works to strengthen the network of mental health resources for children, teens and young adults; promote better mental health; and prevent suicide.

Description

Grant Halliburton Foundation was established in 2006 in memory of a Dallas teen who battled depression and bipolar disorder for several years before his suicide death at the age of 19. The Foundation that bears his name helps people recognize and respond to the signs of mental illness through a variety of avenues including education, conferences, collaboration and encouragement. The Foundation provides mental health education, training and support to more than 35,000 students, educators, parents and professionals annually.

The Foundation connects people to resources through a searchable online database of mental health and addiction resources in Texas at HereForTexas.com.
