People from all walks of life depend on Open Heart Kitchen for their next nutritional meal. Volunteer for the Community Meal Program and work alongside the OHK staff to serve our neighbors! Whether you are scooping mash potatoes, pasta, veggies, or gravy you can feel confident that you are fighting food insecurity in the Tri-Valley.
Volunteers for OHK's Community Meal Program help with the following tasks:
- Setting up the kitchen for meal service (wiping down all surfaces and putting out clean dishware)
- Following all food safety standards while serving meals to Hot Meal diners
- Wiping down tables and bussing dirty dishes as needed
- Assisting with all kitchen clean up duties including washing dishes and preparing the area for the next day
- Other kitchen related duties as assigned by the OHK staff

Description
Open Heart Kitchen's mission is "Equitable access to nutritious food today while building a food secure tomorrow." The work we do focuses on meeting immediate needs in the Tri-Valley, while also seeking ways to eliminate systematic inequalities leading to hunger in the first place. Our current programs include Senior Meals, Community Meals, Mobile Pop Up Pantries for grocery distribution, Street Outreach, and Open Heart Refuge.
Our guests come from all walks of life; the homeless, seniors on fixed incomes, the underemployed and many low-income families struggling to make ends meet. Open Heart Kitchen is their safety net against hunger.
