Patient & Family Services

  • Make coffee (if applicable)
  • Visit each patient on floor.
  • Introduce yourself to patient & family!
  • Why you are there: Can I help your or family member with anything.
  • Offer patient: newspaper, Kleenex, explain
  • movies available, magazines, etc.
  • Explain to family member about waiting room, location of restroom, dining options, etc.
  • If patient has questions regarding treatment, pain or going home, etc. tell their nurse.


Discharging Patients

  • Coordinating w/nursing staff for discharges scheduled
  • Double check everything with nurse before beginning discharge process, coordinating w/families for successful discharge
  • Gathering patient belonging from room-check drawers-closets, counters, under bed
  • Use cart for success discharge when many items Verifying they have discharge orders completed
  • Wheeling standard patients to discharge area (non-IV or bariatric patients)
  • Wait for family to pick up and help load belongings into vehicle - be mindful of adverse weather conditions and patient needs


Patient non-clinical needs

  • Assist in keeping nameplates outside patient rooms current
  • Walking with patients (who are stable on feet)
  • Help CNA’s when they are using a chair to walk patient
  • Providing ice chips - check with nurse
  • Answering call lights - check with charge first
  • Assisting with meal menus
  • Reading to patients
  • ***Sitting and talking with patient*** - very helpful
  • Assist with making phone calls
  • Providing blankets, towels, gowns, personal items of need, magazines, movies if desired
  • Play games with patient
  • Verify TV remote batteries are charged
  • When room is vacant - check for full room and attend to any needs the room has


Departmental Tasks

  • Help with restocking rooms (gloves, emesis bags, sharps containers as needed, remotes,

tab alarms, pillows, and dry erase markers)

  • Making the door/room name tags
  • Organize the dirty utility and storage rooms
  • Refilling the family waiting room coffee pots/water jugs (if available)
  • Office work (filing, copying, running errands for manager)
  • Take out-of-order equipment to Bio-med and pick-up the fixed equipment
  • Report safety hazards
  • Make copies and file as needed
  • Pick up supplies from distribution
  • Stocking printers and FAX machines
  • Provide delivery services for items/supplies
  • Stock blanket warmers
