September 2024 - May 2025 | Monday - Friday

Volunteer Role

Volunteers serve as "coaches" for a group of 5-8 middle school students navigating their way through the 1-day simulated community, JA Finance Park. During the interactive simulation, students get to be an adult for the day! As a volunteer, help students make household budget decisions for their assigned 'life situation'. You will answer questions about what it is like to have adult responsibilities and help students make adult decisions.

No prep work needed. We welcome volunteers 18+ of any education background and lived experience! Volunteers receive training at the beginning of the volunteer day.

Why Volunteer with JA?
Middle Schoolers today are learning a lot but have little opportunities to put their learning into practice. The future economy demands independent thinkers, collaborative workers, and excellent communicators.

This is where JA comes in: we make learning fun. We make learning experiential, authentic and relevant. We partner with local school districts and local businesses - together, preparing students for tomorrow’s demands.

Am I qualified to volunteer?
If you have ever had a job or paid a bill then the answer is YES! You are qualified. We need you. The best volunteers are adults who have gone through life experience, who impart wisdom on the next generation of leaders...."it takes a village" they say.

At JA, we teach kids in a fun way how to make and spend money wisely with two simulation programs: JA BizTown & JA Finance Park. We impact over 30,000+ Gwinnett County middle school students per year, with 3,000+ volunteers at the Gwinnett JA Discovery Center!
