Volunteer Position Description and Purpose:

  • Do you like to craft? Are you looking for opportunities for meaningful volunteer service? We're seeking a few dedicated volunteers to assist with our Monday craft group in Highland Park/Northside.
  • The older adult participants in the craft group enjoy various craft activities and are always open to learning new crafts. Recent projects have included creating clay holiday ornaments, making cloth door wreaths, and weaving wall hangings.

Volunteer Duties & Responsibilities:

  • assisting participants in crafting
  • coordinating and leading craft activities
  • Identifying the skill levels and interests of participants and tailoring crafting activities accordingly.
  • assisting with set-up and clean-up
  • supporting social engagement (i.e. chatting with and getting to know participants)

Qualifications, Skills, & Requirements:

  • Interest and experience in various crafting mediums (or willingness to learn)
  • Creativity and the ability to inspire others
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Patience and the ability to work with diverse groups of participants.
  • Previous experience leading or facilitating crafting activities is preferred but not required

Description

Richmond Aging and Engaging provides creative, social, and fitness programming to older adults living in low-income housing in Richmond, Virginia. We run our programs in low-income apartment buildings (eliminates the transportation barrier!) and incorporate young adult volunteers to support intergenerational connection and relationship building.

Our programs include:

  • Must be at least 18
  • Orientation or Training
  • The craft group runs on Mondays 11-12. Volunteers should expect to be there from ~10:30 – 12:30 (for set-up and clean-up). We are seeking volunteers who can commit to regularly attending the group (this is not a one-time volunteer opportunity).
