Summary:

Our shelves, refrigerators, and freezers are stocked by generous donations from our grocery partners, community members, and individual donors. The Shop the Dock program helps to distribute food that is close to the end of its shelf life but can still be used for same-day distributions to people facing hunger. In the past six months alone, we have rescued more than 200,000 pounds of food. With your help, we can rescue even more food from going to the landfill and minimize the negative impact on the environment.

This program offers you the opportunity to support our staff in securing critical food resources while learning about our supply chain logistics. As a participant, you will travel to the designated pick-up location for the day, communicate with Renewal Food Bank staff, and decide which groceries to shop, collect, and load. Afterwards, you will return to the food bank to unload, ensuring that we are abundantly stocked with the necessary items for families to take home on the same day.

Volunteer Responsibilities:

  • Drive your own vehicle to the pickup location for transporting the rescued food.
  • Communicate with Renewal Food Bank staff regarding the items to shop for.
